Earlier this week, I went to the Prince Edward Theatre for Miss Saigon’s press night.
When asked to name a musical, Miss Saigon is a go-to title for many people, even if they haven’t seen it. The last time it was running in the West End was 15 years ago, so its continued presence in the public consciousness just goes to show how much of an impact it made during its original 10-year run.
This new version has been tweaked slightly and given a sharper edge, but it’s still very much an overblown Cameron Mackintosh show – which is not in itself a bad thing.
If The Void did star ratings, Miss Saigon would be a solid 4/5.
I also wrote a shorter review for BroadwayWorld.
